SINGER KAZY LAMBIST MAKES WAVES IN THE FRENCH ELECTROPOP MUSIC SCENE

Arthur Dubreucq aka « Kazy Lambist » grew up in the south of France (Montpellier), playing classical piano at a young age for 7 years and then self-taught himself guitar during his teenage years. His stage name came from a local alcoholic drink in British Columbia, Canada where he spent one year at the end of high school. Kicking his musical inspiration and putting him on a path he was meant to follow. Back in France, in 2011, his songs were played on « Radio Nova » Shortly after that, he won a people's choice award in Paris during the 12th inRocks Lab, making a name for himself. From that moment on, his songs are being played on Virgin Radio, he is invited on National Television by « France 5 », « C à vous », « Canal+ », « Le Petit Journal », and praised by oscar- winning director : « Guillermo del Toro » and English Director : « Ana Lily Amirpour ». Currently the music video for his song : « On you » has 2M views on Youtube.





Meetkeypeople : Hi, Arthur thanks for taking the time to do this interview. Did you always know you wanted to be a musician/singer?


Kazy Lambist : I first wanted to be an airplane pilot. Music was my second passion. There were no artists in my family so I didn't know it could be a job.


Meetkeypeople : I see. At seventeen years old, you went to British Columbia for a year on a school exchange and joined a jazz band. Subsequently, you described this experience as a trigger. Can you tell us more? And do you think if you had never been there, things would be different and you might not be where you are now?


Kazy Lambist : At seventeen years old, I wanted to leave my small town in the south of France. I found an exchange program through which I could be hosted by families abroad. My parents had to commit in return to welcoming foreign students for a year. They said yes. It was an exotic experience, in northern British Columbia near Alaska. I discovered a passion for jazz there with the high school orchestra. It also allowed me to take a step back from my life in Montpellier.


Meetkeypeople : Awesome ! How long does it take you to compose a song? And what do you write first, the music or the lyrics or the other way around? Or there really isn't a rule of thumb?


Kazy Lambist : The length of time it takes to create a song varies, but the first day is always the most important. It's the moment when I don't know what I'm doing yet, when I let my ideas come without thinking. Then comes a second stage of reflection about the structure and the lyrics.
